WASHINGTON, DC - The Colonials men's tennis team continued to roll Friday by defeating Atlantic 10 Conference rival Duquesne, 6-1, at GW's Mount Vernon Tennis Facility. GW improved to 11-6 in the spring.
Every Colonial won their singles match with the exception of sophomore Matt Hane (Walterboro, SC/Porter-Gaud School) who fell, 7-5, 6-3 to Duquesne's David Brady at No. 1 singles. Hane teamed with senior Kinzie Wright (Seminole, FL/Thomas Howard Academy) to win, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles.
The Colonials were without their No. 2 singles player, freshman Matt Treadgold (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem Central) who is sidelined with a back injury.
That left freshman Jake Jopling (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) to play the No. 2 slot where he disposed of Duquesne's Seth Fogelman, 6-4, 6-2.
Jopling and Kevin Wright (Seminole, FL/Thomas Howard Academy) won, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles. Wright won at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2.
Senior Kinzie Wright (Seminole, FL/Thomas Howard Academy), like twin brother Kevin, also won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Sophomore Brett Warner (Vienna, VA/James Madison) continued his winning ways at No. 5 singles winning, 6-1, 6-3.
