Raglani Named First Team Scholastic All-America
Washington, DC (June 21, 2001) - George Washington University baseball signee Anthony Raglani (Indiana, PA/ Indiana H.S.) has been named to the United States Navy Scholastic All-America Baseball team for 2001. The team is selected by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association.
The U.S. Navy Scholastic All-America Team is the largest, competitive national honorary awards program that recognizes athletic and academic achievements of high school students and the community service they perform. Modeled after the collegiate Verizon Academic All-America Teams Program, and endorsed by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), it was initially launched during the 1999-2000 academic year. Student-athletes are named to six national boys' teams (football, basketball, baseball, soccer, swimming and track and field) and six national girls' teams (volleyball, basketball, softball, soccer, swimming, and track and field).
To be nominated, a student must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale. The nominee also must be a senior in both academic and athletic standing and be a participant in a program that benefits the community.
Raglani, an outfielder, and six other newcomers will look to help the Colonials set a school-record for victories in a season for a third straight year in 2002. GW finished the 2001 season with a record of 38-23 and came within one game of advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1992.
