GW to Honor Sam Perlozzo’s No. 4 on April 11

Sam Perlozzo is set to become the second GW baseball player to have his jersey number recognized at Tucker Field this season. Perlozzo's No. 4 will be honored prior to GW's Saturday, April 11th, matchup with Saint Louis at 1:00 p.m.
Perlozzo's ceremony comes on the heels of Henry "Hank" Bunnell's jersey retirement, which took place on March 15th against Rhode Island. Bunnell and Perlozzo are the lone members of the GW baseball program to receive such honors, after GW Athletics announced in September the plan to honor 10 Buff & Blue greats throughout the 2025-26 academic year.
Playing at GW from 1970-72, Perlozzo ranks in the top 10 in program history in stolen bases, more than 50 years after his graduation. He swiped 52 bags over the course of his career, the most the program had seen at the time. Perlozzo was named GW's inaugural Team MVP in 1972, an honor that's been bestowed upon a member of the baseball program at the conclusion of each season ever since. He was also named an Academic All-American that same season.
Following his graduation, Perlozzo accumulated over 25 years of coaching experience in the Major Leagues, including becoming the program's only alum to serve as an MLB Manager (Baltimore from 2005-07). He also spent time on the big league staffs with the New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds, Seattle Mariners and Philadelphia Phillies as well. Perlozzo also made his mark in the minor leagues, serving as a manager for five seasons, winning three titles and two Manager of the Year awards.
Perlozzo was honored for his career accomplishments in 1986, being inducted into the GW Athletics Hall of Fame. He was the eighth GW baseball alum to be inducted at the time and was joined by fellow baseball and basketball alum Joe Lalli in the Class of '86.
