Women’s Basketball Faces Dayton in Second Round of A-10 Championship
3/4/2026 9:19:00 AM | Women's Basketball
WASHINGTON – After earning the 10-seed and receiving a first-round bye in the 2026 Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championship, the George Washington women's basketball team puts its season on the line Thursday, facing seventh-seeded Dayton at 5:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
REYNOLDS NAMED TO ALL-CONFERENCE THIRD TEAM
Standout sophomore Gabby Reynolds was selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Third Team, the league announced on Tuesday. Reynolds took a major step forward in her development this season, improving in nearly every statistical category and metric compared to her rookie year. Most notably, Reynolds averaged 14.0 ppg in the regular season, 11th-best in the A-10, and a step up from her 10.2 ppg average last year. Her efficiency from the floor also took a big leap, shooting 43.2% on field goal attempts (compared to 31.9% in 2024-25) and 35.0% on three-point attempts (up from 27.0% last season). She grabbed 4.3 rebounds a night, up one compared to her 3.4 rpg average last season, and finished the year at 81.5% from the free-throw line, eighth best in the A-10.
Where Reynolds truly excelled was her consistency this season. Across her 30 games played, she scored in double figures in 22 of them, including GW's final 11 games of the regular season from Jan. 21 – Feb. 28. She reached 10+ points in 14 of the team's 18 conference games and finished the season with 15 games of 15+ points, including a career-high 27 against Miami on Nov. 29. She was also consistent on the glass, grabbing five or more rebounds in 12 games, including 13 against La Salle in her first career double-double on Feb. 14.
A LOOK AT THE BRACKET
As the A-10 celebrates its 50th anniversary this season, the GW women's basketball program has been at the center of the conference's women's hoops success for decades. As the most successful program in conference history with 23 A-10 titles, the Revolutionaries are on a quest to reclaim the top spot amongst their peers. That journey begins on Thursday, facing Dayton in the second round of the tournament, with the winner moving on to battle George Mason at 5:00 p.m. on Friday in the quarterfinal round.
GW has had success against the Flyers this season, going 2-0 against Dayton in two meetings. As has become customary around the league, each A-10 school will play an early-December conference game to help balance the load of a busy league schedule in the New Year. This season, GW's early A-10 game was against the Flyers, a 54-42 win inside the Charles E. Smith Center during the heart of non-conference action. Reynolds (19 points and seven rebounds) and Sara Lewis (12 points and 13 rebounds) both had big nights for GW in the win, combining for 31 points and 20 boards. GW also managed to keep all-conference guard Nayo Lear scoreless in the game, the only time this season she failed to register a point.
Two months later, on Feb. 1, GW traveled to Ohio to face Dayton at UD Arena. After trailing for much of the game, the Revolutionaries entered the fourth quarter down five and were still trailing with six minutes remaining. The Buff & Blue proceeded to end the game on an 18-2 run, storming past the Flyers on their home court. Reynolds once again led the way in that contest, posting 17 points, while Kamari Sims and Jaeda Wilson both added 12.
GW will now look for three wins over the Flyers in the same season, a feat the program hasn't achieved since 2015, on its way to an A-10 regular season and tournament title.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton enters the conference tournament 16-13 overall and 9-9 in A-10 games this season. The Flyers ended their regular season with consecutive wins over Loyola Chicago and VCU, catapulting themselves into the seventh seed. Tamika Williams-Jeter is in her fourth year with the program, amassing a 53-66 record during her tenure.
Lear was Dayton's lone All-Conference selection this season, joining Reynolds on the third team. She led the Flyers with 14.5 ppg, ranking 10th in the conference, on 46.9% shooting from the floor. Nicole Stephens averaged 11.0 ppg for Dayton, while Fatima Ibrahim grabbed a team-high 6.5 rebounds per game. Dayton's complete 2025-26 stats can be found here.
