Women’s Basketball Hosts Loyola Chicago in WNIT Super Sixteen
3/25/2026 10:20:00 AM | Women's Basketball
Coming off a thrilling 61-58 come-from-behind win at Southern Indiana, the George Washington women's basketball team looks to keep its tournament run alive on Friday, hosting fellow A-10 member Loyola Chicago in the WNIT Super Sixteen. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. on ESPN+. Tickets for the matchup are available now and can be purchased here.
CLUTCH BUCKETS LEAD GW TO THE WIN
With the season on the line and trailing by seven entering the fourth, the Buff & Blue came out swinging in the final quarter, cutting Southern Indiana's lead down to one in less than two minutes, and recapturing the lead with four minutes to go on two Kamari Sims free throws. GW would never trail again, using clutch buckets down the stretch from Gabby Reynolds (26 points) and Sara Lewis (11 points and 10 rebounds) to salt away the win.
Reynolds' 26 helped move her into 18th in program history for points in a single season with 478. The All-Conference guard is averaging a team-best 14.5 ppg, including 23.5 ppg in the WNIT. Lewis secured her fourth double-double of the season, giving GW clutch play down the stretch to help secure the win.
BACK IN THE SUPER SIXTEEN
The Buff & Blue return to the WNIT's Super Sixteen for the second time in program history. In GW's five previous trips to the tournament, the 2013-14 squad made the deepest run, advancing to the third round by way of wins over East Carolina and Villanova. Their season eventually ended with a 74-59 loss at USF.
A win for the Revolutionaries on Friday night would give the program and Head Coach Ganiyat Adeduntan their first trip to the WNIT Great Eight. Adeduntan led Colgate to the Super Sixteen in 2023-24 but fell short to Vermont on the road.
A-10 REPRESENTING IN THE WNIT
Of the 16 remaining teams in this year's WNIT, three hail from the Atlantic 10. Along with GW, Loyola Chicago, the Revolutionaries' opponent on Friday, and La Salle, all remain in the postseason. St. Bonaventure also made an appearance in the tournament, falling to Middle Tennessee State in the second round.
In total, the A-10 saw seven teams play postseason basketball this year. Joining the WNIT crew were Rhode Island and Richmond, who both made appearances in the NCAA Tournament, along with George Mason, who played in this year's WBIT. All three have since seen their season's come to a close, leaving the three WNIT squads left to represent the conference.
SCOUTING THE RAMBLERS
Loyola travels to the Charles E. Smith Center for the second time this season, fresh off a 62-56 defeat of Florida Gulf Coast on Monday night. The Ramblers are 16-17 on the year and led by fourth-year Head Coach Allison Guth, who's having her most successful season at the helm of the program. The Ramblers have been road warriors as of late, defeating Norfolk State, 58-54, on March 21 in the first round, before heading to Florida two days later to play FGCU.
The Ramblers have mastered the art of winning close games, tallying 13 victories by 10 points or less, and 10 by a margin of five or less. Included in that stat is a 53-48 win over GW on January 17, a comeback win that saw the Ramblers outscore GW 18-10 in the fourth quarter to steal the road win. LUC advanced to the quarterfinals of the A-10 Tournament with a 60-53 victory over St. Bonaventure. The Ramblers fell to eventual A-10 champs, Rhode Island, by a score of 71-64.
LUC is led by Alexus Mobley, who averages 11.6 ppg and posted a game-high 27 points in the team's win on Monday night. Mobley is also second on the team in rebounds at 4.9 per game. A-10 Third Team All-Conference selection and All-Rookie Team honoree Alex-Anne Bessette is second on the team in scoring at 11.4 ppg, though she was inactive in the team's second round victory over Florida Gulf Coast. Bessette shoots the ball at a 42.8% clip from the floor and grabs 3.3 rebounds a night. Loyola's full 2025-26 stats can be found here.
