Tennis Finishes Stellar Opening Weekend of Fall Competition

WASHINGTON – The George Washington tennis team entered the Jackie Calla era on a high note, finishing with a combined 25-15 record in matches this weekend at the Bedford Cup. Five Revolutionaries' singles or pairings won their respective flights, including four singles and one doubles team.
Madison Lee, Karen Verduzco, Solange Skeene, Devika Manu Alexandra Lindqvist each finished 3-1 in singles action to win their respective brackets. Lee tallied her win in the flight one west division, while Verduzco recorded victory in flight two west. Skeene earned victory in flight two north, Manu clocked a win in flight three east and Lindqvist won flight three north.
Laziza Talipova finished 2-2 in flight four, while Viktoria Sasinka finished her weekend 1-3, falling in the flight one south final.
The doubles team of Sasinka/Skeene recorded a win in flight one west after going 3-1 on the weekend. Lee/Verduzco also finished 3-1, tallying a third-place finish in flight one east. Lindqvist/Manu notched a 2-2 record, placing fourth in flight three east.
GW returns to the courts next weekend, competing in the Blue & Gold Invite hosted by Navy. The tournament will run from Sept. 26-28 in Annapolis, Md.
