For the second weekend in a row, the George Washington tennis team competed in a weather-shortened fall tournament, this time at the George Mason Invite. The Revolutionaries cruised to a 2-0 record in the round-robin event, finishing with wins over Delaware State and the host Patriots.

Inclement weather in the DMV cancelled Sunday's match against Mount St. Mary's, but it didn't stop GW from picking up two wins on a sunny Saturday. The Buff & Blue handled George Mason in the tournament's opening match, cruising to a 6-1 win, followed by a 4-1 victory over Delaware State in the afternoon.

GW's doubles team of Madison Lee and Karen Verduzco went 2-0 on the day, earning a 6-1 win over the Patriots and a 6-0 win over the Hornets. The Revolutionaries also saw doubles teams of Solange Skeene/Victoria Sasinka, Alexandra Lindqvist/Laura Damm and Devika Manu/Laziza Talipova earn victories over the Patriots. Delaware State forfeited the remainder of their doubles matches, giving GW no-contest wins.

In singles, the following players finished 2-0 on the day to lead GW. Verduzco (6-4, 6-1) and (8-0) in the second flight; Manu (6-0, 6-2) and (6-0, 6-3) in the fourth and seventh flights, respectively; and Talipova (6-4, 6-2) and (6-0, 6-2) in the eighth and fifth flights, respectively.

Skeene, Lindqvist, Sasinka, Damm and Vaida Matuseviciute each finished 1-0 in singles, either competing in only one match or seeing their second singles match go unfinished.

GW now looks ahead to this coming week's ITA Regionals, hosted in Lynchburg, Va. The Buff & Blue will send Verduzco to compete in the singles main draw, as well as Damm and Lindqvist to take part in singles qualifying. The duos of Lee/Verduzco and Skeene/Sasinka will both compete in the doubles main draw. The event will take place from October 15-18, with live coverage available on GWsports.com.
