Verduzco Highlights Tennis’ Opening Weekend at Blue and Gold Invite

Karen Verduzco's runner-up finish in singles flight B bracket highlighted George Washington tennis' opening weekend at the Blue and Gold Invite hosted by Navy. GW saw 10 student-athletes participate in the three-day event, totaling 19 wins over the weekend.
Verduzco finished the weekend 3-1 in singles play, tallying a 6-1, 6-3 win in the opening round, a win via forfeit in round two and a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the semifinals. Despite a valiant effort, Verduzco came up short in the finals, 6-7, 5-7.
Alexandra Lindqvist ended her weekend on a high note, claiming the B flight's consolation title. After losing her first match of the main draw, Lindqvist rattled off four consecutive wins to claim the crown, capped off by a 0-6, 6-3, 10-8 victory in which she came back from down 6-1 in the final set.
Devika Manu finished 2-2 on the weekend, earning two consolation wins in the flight C. She ultimately fell in a back-and-forth battle in the semifinals, 6-4, 2-6, 9-11. Laura Damm registered a 2-1 record in the flight B main draw, while Madison Lee finished 1-1 in flight A. Laziza Talipova notched one win in flight D, a 6-0, 4-6, 10-6 victory.
In doubles, the duo of Lee and Karen Verduzco went 2-1, falling in the flight A semifinals. The pair won two consecutive 6-3 matches before falling 2-6. Vaida Matuseviciute and Lindqvist also teamed up for a 6-2 win in flight B, finishing 1-1 on the weekend.
GW returns to action next weekend, taking part in the River City Open hosted by Richmond from October 2-4.
