Tennis Opens Fall Slate at Bedford Cup

WASHINGTON – Under the direction of newly-appointed Head Coach Jackie Calla, the George Washington tennis team opens its 2025 fall schedule this weekend at the Bedford Cup, hosted by the University of Maryland. Action is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Friday at the Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTCC) in DC and extend until Sunday afternoon.
GW will compete in a field of 11 teams, including the host Terrapins, West Virginia, VCU and George Mason, notably. Eight of GW's nine rostered student-athletes will compete this weekend in singles action, with the Revolutionaries also submitting four doubles pairings as well.
The tournament is broken into five flights for singles and three for doubles. Madison Lee and Victoria Sasinka will represent GW in flight one singles, Solange Skeene and Karen Verduzco will compete in flight two, Devika Manu and Alexandra Lindqvist will battle in flight three, while Laziza Talipova and Katya Balin will take part in flight four.
On the doubles side, the duos of Lee/Verduzco and Sasinka/Skeene will compete in flight one. Lindqvist/Manu will take part in flight two, earning an automatic bye in the first round through the draw process, while Balin/Talipova will compete in flight three.
