
Six Revolutionaries Shining in Pro Ball

WASHINGTON – As summer begins to heat up, six GW Baseball alums are shining on the pro circuit and making names for themselves across the country. Harrison Cohen (New York Yankees), Cade Fergus (Philadelphia Phillies) and Trevor Kuncl (Cincinnati Reds) are all competing in the MLB farm system, while Steve DiTomaso (Down East Bird Dawgs), Brett Young (Brockton Rox) and Ellis Schwartz (Evansville Otters) are making their mark in the Frontier League. All six players continue to represent the Buff & Blue to the highest standard.
Harrison Cohen
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees)
GW Class of 2022
Cohen was called up to the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, on Thursday, June 12. He's yet to appear in a game with his new team. Through 20 appearances in Double-A this season, Cohen has been stellar with a 2.01 ERA out of the bullpen. The 6'0" righty has tallied two saves, while also recording 30 strikeouts in just 22.1 innings of work. He's posted three punchouts in four separate games, highlighted by striking out the side against the Portland Sea Dogs on June 11th, his most recent outing. Cohen has yet to give up an earned run in June, working five scoreless appearances this month covering 4.2 total innings.
Cade Fergus
Reading Fightin Phils (Double-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies)
GW Class of 2022
After opening the season with the Fightin Phils, Fergus was called up to Philadelphia's Triple-A affiliate, the Leigh Valley Iron Pigs, on April 23. Fergus made the most of his time at the AAA level, tallying 11 hits in just eight games. He launched five home runs, drove in 13 RBI and stole three bags. He finished his time with the Iron Pigs batting .407 with a .448 on-base percentage. His slugging percentage was at a whooping .963 as well. Overall, in 2025, Fergus has played in 51 games, totaling 27 hits and 24 RBI. He's also drawn 18 walks and stole nine bases.
Trevor Kuncl
Chattanooga Lookouts (Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds)
GW Class of 2022
In his first season in the minor leagues, Kuncl has begun to make a name for himself, standing out in Chattanooga's bullpen. Sporting a 1-0 record, Kuncl has allowed just two earned runs this season in 17 relief appearances. He's tossed 20.0 total innings, holding a sub-one ERA at 0.90. The righty has 22 strikeouts and is holding opposing hitters to a .183 average, all while maintaining a WHIP of 0.95. Kuncl has recorded three strikeouts on two occasions and has tossed two or more relief innings in three separate games. He didn't allow an earned run this season until May 7th, going 10 games and 10.2 innings with no damage.
Steve DiTomaso
Down East Bird Dawgs (Frontier League)
GW Class of 2024
After putting his name all over GW's record books during his five seasons at The Tuck, DiTomaso has started his promising professional career on a high note. To date, he's appeared in 26 games for the Bird Dawgs, racking up 35 hits and scoring 20 runs. His batting average is a stellar .324, while his on-base percentage is just below .400 at .395. He's accumulated five doubles and belted two home runs, while also recording 60 putouts and one fielding assist in the outfield.
Brett Young
Brockton Rox (Frontier League)
GW Class of 2024
In his rookie year with Brockton, Young has appeared in eight games, tallying 19 plate appearances and three hits. He's recorded one double, driven in two RBI and has stolen two bases this year. Young has played a variety of positions defensively for Brockton, including second, third and the outfield, committing just one error thus far.
Ellis Schwartz
Evansville Otters (Frontier League)
GW Class of 2025
After just finishing his GW career this spring, Schwartz signed with Evansville in early June. Since then, he's played in four games, recording four hits in 14 at-bats. He's driven in three runs and drawn three walks, giving him an on-base percentage of .421 thus far. Schwartz has played all four games in the outfield, tallying six putouts and one assist.
