Northbrook, Ill. – GW student-athletes Tim Nicholson (baseball) and Lilly Travieso (softball) have been named to the Allstate and NACDA Good Works Team for the spring 2025 season. The list honors those who excel not only in the respective sport but also stand out in the classroom and in their community. Nominated by their athletic administrators, conference office staff and coaches, these student-athletes embody leadership, service and character and will now be considered for the selection to the Allstate NACDA Good Works Team which will be announced in late April.
A leader on and off the baseball field, Nicholson has been part of GW's "Dream on 3" team for the past three years. Starting as a team member with the organization in 2022-23, Nicholson has taken on a leadership role the past two years, serving as the team captain from 2023-25. A non-profit organization, 'Dream on 3,' aims to make sports-themed dreams come true for kids aged 5-21 with life-altering illnesses. Nicholson has individually raised over $2,000 for the GW chapter and has helped lead the campus team to over $20,000 raised over the past two years.
Nicholson has been part of making two dreams come true. During the 2023-24 school year, Tripp Phillips, a 15-year-old with autism, dreamed to "meet a real-life GW student-athlete" and was treated to a three-day trip to DC, where he toured the national monuments, practiced with the GW women's soccer team and was introduced as a starter in GW's men's basketball game against La Salle. In 2024-25, Nicholson helped captain a dream for Hannah Albus. Albus, a 21-year-old with cerebral palsy, dreamed of being part of the GW women's soccer team. During her trip to the nation's capital, Albus enjoyed a hotel stay in Washington, a show at the Kennedy Center, luxury transportation, a VIP GW Athletics experience, and was introduced as a captain in GW women's soccer's match against George Mason.
Over his career, Nicholson has started in 88 games with 101 appearances for the Buff & Blue. He's been named to the University's Academic Dean's List (3.75+ GPA) on five occasions and is a member of GW's Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) chapter. Nicholson previously served as a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) and received GW baseball's 'I Got Your Back' award in 2023.
Travieso, a native of Burbank, Calif., is the founder of Empowering Leadership in Latina Athletes (ELLA). The organization's mission is to support young female Latinas to become the leaders of tomorrow through both athletic and academic excellence. Through these efforts, ELLA works on developing leadership in Latina athletes through education, training, mentorship and advocacy in the sports community. ELLA's vision is to develop strong Latina leaders that will positively impact their communities while also establishing their own legacy.
Prior to joining GW this season as a transfer, Travieso was a two-time Dean's List honoree and 2024 team captain at Cornell. She finished the 2024 season as the team leader in batting average (.330) and average during the conference season (.390). She was an NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete in 2023 and earned Second Team All-Ivy honors in 2022. Since joining GW, Travieso has appeared in 32 games to date, making 29 starts. She's tallied 15 hits, eight runs scored and has an on-base percentage of .372.
