The George Washington baseball team used a five-run eighth inning to down Georgetown, 9-7, on Wednesday night. The win is GW's fifth consecutive, the Revolutionaries' longest winning streak of the year.
Georgetown jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after posting three runs in the second and two in the third. Playing at Capital One Park, the home of the Atlantic 10 Championship in mid-May, the Revolutionaries got on the scoreboard in the fourth with two runs of their own. Robbie Lavey continues his case for a First Team All-Conference selection, launching a two-run home run, his sixth of the season.
GW continued to chip away in the seventh, using a fielding error by Georgetown's pitcher to plate its third run of the day. The GW Revs got within one later in the frame when Jack Kent tallied a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Travis Peitz from third.
The Hoyas answered right back with two more runs of their own, but the GW bats stayed hot, erupting for five runs in the eighth to put away the game. The Buff & Blue got the rally started on an error by Georgetown's second baseman, allowing Cristino Tufano to score. Connor Jones and Kent both tallied RBI singles in the inning, while Josh Wenz drove one run in on a double to center field. Tufano rounded out the scoring with a bases-loaded hit by pitch, giving GW a 9-7 lead.
Ryan Barks earned his first win of the season after tossing one scoreless inning in relief. Colin Lebel nailed down the six-out save, keeping Georgetown off the scoreboard in the eighth and ninth innings. Lebel picks up his team-leading sixth save of 2026.
GW now turns its attention to a crucial Atlantic 10 series this weekend, welcoming Davidson to The Tuck for three games starting on Friday at 3:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
