Robbie Lavey's four RBI day led the George Washington baseball team to an 8-7 win at VCU on Saturday afternoon, securing the series and giving GW a chance at its first A-10 sweep of the season tomorrow. The Buff & Blue improve to 15-22 overall and 8-9 in A-10 games, having won four of its last five contests.

GW's Andrew Cutler continued his recent stretch of solid starts, shutting out the Rams through the game's first three innings. VCU finally broke through in the fourth with the game's first run via a solo homer from Nate Kirkpatrick.

GW's offense didn't get going until the sixth, when Lavey knotted the game up with a solo home run of his own, his fifth of the season. The GW Revs took their first lead of the game in the seventh when Travis Peitz doubled to left field, scoring Nick Mullen from second base. Later that inning, with the bases loaded, Lavey dropped a double just inside the right field line, clearing the bases to give the Buff & Blue a 5-1 advantage.

VCU answered back with three runs of its own in the home half of the seventh, chasing Cutler, who tossed six-plus innings and tallied six strikeouts. Colin Lebel came on in the seventh to relieve Cutler, bridging the gap for GW and giving the Revolutionaries 2.1 innings of work.

GW added much-needed insurance runs in the eighth, scoring two runs on wild pitches and a third via a Josh Wenz RBI single.

VCU tallied one run in both the eighth and ninth innings off Lebel, but for the second-straight day, Matt Bruno nailed down a GW win with a save. Bruno now has four saves on the year, while the win goes to Cutler, moving him to 5-1 this season.

GW looks for its first series sweep of the season tomorrow, battling VCU at 1:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
