WASHINGTON – Head Coach George Rodriguez and the George Washington tennis team have announced the addition of Laziza Talipova to the roster ahead of the 2025-26 season. Talipova will arrive in Foggy Bottom as a first-year in the fall of 2025 and join the program prior to the start of the fall season.
"I'm excited to welcome Laziza to the team this fall," said Rodriguez. "She brings commitment and passion to both the sport and academics. Laziza understands the commitment it takes to succeed at this level. She brings a strong understanding of the court, knows how to develop points and has the patience and understanding to know when to attack successfully. She has a great all-court game that will contribute to our team immediately. She has a heart of gold, and I can't wait to have her on board."
Hailing from Orlando, Fla., Laziza holds the record for most career wins at Trinity Prep High School. Leading both on and off the court, Laziza led the varsity team as their number one singles and doubles player all four years of her career and served as the team captain in her senior season. She helped lead Trinity Prep to a District Runner-Up finish and captured individual District and Regional Championships in number one singles and doubles to advance to the FHSAA State Championship.
"I chose GW because it offers a perfect balance of competitive college tennis and strong academics," Talipova said. "The location in D.C. provides amazing opportunities both on and off the court, including access to internships and cultural experiences. GW's commitment to excellence in athletics and education will help me grow as both a student and an athlete. I'm excited to be part of a supportive team environment while pursuing my academic goals."
Talipova is no stranger to the spotlight after being named to the Orlando Sentinel All-Area Team twice. She's a three-time Athlete of the Week honoree and the Team MVP awardee twice in her high school career.
Outside of her high school accolades, Talipova won the 105th American Tennis Association National Championships in the Girls' 16 division. She also competed internationally in the ITF J5 Puerto Rico and the ITF JS U.S. Virgin Islands, winning matches in both events during the main draw. She's trained at T2 Academy in Germany and learned to speak four different languages during her time traveling the world.
