
Women’s Basketball Battles Rhode Island in Second Round

HENRICO, Va. – The George Washington women's basketball team battles fifth-seed Rhode Island on Thursday in the second round of the Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championship. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m. with live coverage on ESPN+.
FIRST ROUND DOMINANCE
The Revolutionaries cruised to a 65-44 win over Loyola Chicago in the opening round of the A-10 tournament, outscoring the Ramblers 38-18 in the paint and shooting 66.7% from inside the arc. The Buff & Blue took their first lead of the game with seven minutes left in the first quarter and never gave it back, leading for 37 total minutes. Makayla Andrews led the way with a team-high 14 points, eclipsing the 1,500-point mark for her career on a free-throw line jumper in the first quarter. Andrews just missed a double-double with nine boards while also dishing out a team-high five assists.
The win is GW's first postseason victory since 2022-23, when the Revolutionaries advanced to the A-10 quarterfinals. Rhode Island ended GW's run that season by a final score of 68-56.

The winner of Thursday's matchup between GW and Rhode Island advances to face Saint Joseph's on Friday at 1:30 p.m. The fourth-ranked Hawks will play their first game of the postseason on Friday after receiving the conference's final double bye. Winners of Friday's games advance to the semi-finals on Saturday, which will air nationally on the CBS Sports Network. Sunday's championship will tip at 4:00 p.m. on ESPN2.

Rhode Island makes its A-10 tournament debut after dropping its season finale to GW on Saturday. The Buff & Blue held the Rams to just 27.7% shooting from the floor to capture a 54-46 win in Kingston. Rhode Island holds a 16-15 overall record and finished 11-7 in A-10 action this season. Tammi Reiss is in her sixth season overall, accumulating a 109-67 overall record during her time with Rhody.
Offensively, Rhode Island is led by Harismran Kaur, who averages 12.2 ppg. She's the lone Ram averaging double figures this season, with Sophie Phillips in second at 9.7 ppg.
