WASHINGTON - After taking the floor at 8 p.m. following women's basketball's rout against UDC, George Washington men's basketball completed the sweep for GW hoops in an Opening Night 67-47 victory against Maine.

Starting the season at home in the 50th anniversary season of the Charles E. Smith Center, GW had its hands full with the Black Bears in the opening half. A 29-25 halftime edge for the hosts was erased in a 35-35 tie just after the under-16 minute timeout in the second half. A Tre Dinkins' triple gave GW the edge back, and sparked a 15-4 run that restored the Revolutionaries lead back to 11, matching its largest from the first half.

Using his superior size to the smaller Black Bears, Northwestern transfer Luke Hunger muscled his way to a team-leading and career high-tying 15 points in 24:03 off the bench, spelling All-A-10 big man Rafael Castro, who was saddled with foul trouble all game.

Bubu Benjamin (Tarleton State) and Tyrone Marshall Jr. (Western Kentucky) got their first starts in a Buff & Blue uniform and responded with strong performances. Marshall's 12 rebounds were a game high in his double-double effort with 13 points alongside, while Benjamin's athleticism was on display in an efficient 4-of-6 outing from the floor. All-Conference guard Christian Jones joined Hunger and Marshall in double-figures with 14.

GW now travels north to play South Florida. The Hall of Fame Tip-Off matchup comes Saturday in Uncasville, Conn., at Mohegan Sun Arena at 1:30 p.m. The game will be streamed on Peacock and fans can attend a pregame tailgate at the venue by registering here
