WASHINGTON - GW men's basketball travels to Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut for the Amica Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off with South Florida on Saturday. Tip is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. with coverage on Peacock.
MARSHALL OF THE BOARDS
Tyrone Marshall Jr. recorded the most rebounds of any player in the Atlantic 10 on Opening Night in his GW debut, grabbing 12 on Monday vs. Maine. Going along with 13 points, Marshall tallied his third career double-double and first since Nov. 20, 2024 vs. Jackson State while with Western Kentucky.
Marshall was a two-time All-CUSA Honorable Mention selection for the Hilltoppers and ranked sixth in the league last year with 6.6 rebounds per game. He charted third in CUSA, and 76th nationally, in defensive rebounding with 5.5 per contest a year ago.
HUNGRY FOR MORE
Graduate transfer Luke Hunger reached double figures for just the sixth time in 63 games on Monday with Maine and in the process, tied his career-best with 15 points. Hunger last reached double digits on Nov. 12, 2024 against UIC while with Northwestern and has now scored 15 points in back-to-back season openers after doing so last Nov. 4 against Lehigh.
A LOOK AT THE BULLS
South Florida was projected to finish second in the American this season in the first year under head coach Bryan Hodgson, who came to USF following an NIT and CBI in two years at Arkansas State.
USF opened the year with a 102-67 thrashing of Florida A&M, the second-highest margin of victory for a head coach's debut in American Conference history. The Bulls feature a pair of preseason All-Conference honorees in LSU transfer Daimion Collins, who played just 12 minutes Monday, and Arkansas State transfer Izayiah Nelson, who started and had 16 points and 10 rebounds in 16 minutes.
Much like GW, USF has an experienced roster with eight seniors, the most in the American and one of just 33 teams in the nation to have that many.
