DEFEND THE DISTRICT
Tuesday's game will be GW's second matchup with a DC opponent following an 86-47 season-opening win over UDC last Monday. In total, GW will face four opponents located within The District this season, including UDC, Howard, American and Georgetown. The Revolutionaries will also face nearby George Mason twice in conference action as well.
A highly competitive series dating back to 1976, GW holds a slim 13-12 lead over Howard. The Bison took the first five meetings between 1976-78, before GW captured its first win in December of '78. GW has been dominant in recent memory, winning 10 of the last 12 matchups, dating back to the 1985-86 campaign, including seven in a row from 1985 to 2012.
HONORING THE GREATS
Announced earlier this season, GW will honor the jersey numbers of two of the most decorated players in GW history. Jonquel Jones will see her #35 celebrated at halftime of GW's Dec. 6th matchup with Brown, while Taj Abraham's #40 will be recognized at halftime of the Revolutionaries' Feb. 14th matchup against La Salle.
A new tradition beginning this year, GW Athletics is recognizing all-time greats across all Buff & Blue sports. The Revolutionaries' new Retired & Honored Jersey Policy formalized a process to receive this special honor for student-athletes and coaches who have achieved extraordinary athletic accomplishments during their careers at GW. Jerseys may be retired or honored, with the latter recognition enabling the number to remain in circulation. To date, only softball's Elana Meyers Taylor, the most decorated Black athlete in Winter Olympics history, has had her jersey retired.
Both Jones and Abraham will have their jerseys honored this season, allowing the #35 and #40 to be worn in future years. Both will still be eligible for their jerseys to be retired in future seasons, with fans able to submit nominations here.
SCOUTING THE BISON
Howard enters Tuesday's matchup 2-0, having defeated Providence and Florida A&M to open the season. The Bison earned a 68-56 win over the Friars on Nov. 4, then followed it up with a dominant 89-53 win against the Rattlers on Saturday.
Howard is led by Head Coach Ty Grace, who is in her 11th season with the program. Grace holds a 160-139 mark with the Bison and a 214-170 overall record in 14 years as a head coach. Howard was picked as the preseason favorite in the MEAC Pre-Season Poll in October, led by Zoe Stewart, who's averaging a team-high 11.5 ppg on the young year. Zennia Thomas is putting in 9.5 points and averaging 6.5 rebounds per game, while April Edwards is averaging an identical 9.5 ppg and dishing out 3.5 assists a night. Howard's full 2025-26 stats can be found here.
