RICHMOND, Va. – Behind standout performances from Solange Skeene, Alexandra Lindqvist and Karen Verduzco, the George Washington tennis team put together a stellar weekend at the River City Open hosted by the University of Richmond. The Buff & Blue finished 14-7 overall, going 9-4 in singles and 5-3 in doubles.

Skeene, Lindqvist and Verduzco each went a perfect 2-0 in singles play, recording wins in both scheduled matches. Unlike a usual fall tournament setup, student-athletes didn't compete in a usual bracket draw; matchups were randomly selected with a maximum of two singles competitions and three doubles matches. Madison Lee, Devika Manu and Laziza Talipova each finished 1-1 on the weekend in singles, while Victoria Sasinka went 0-2.

In doubles, the duo of Verduzco/Lee went 2-0, while Sasinka/Skeene won two matches and fell in their final bout. Lindqvist/Manu got the weekend started with a win but dropped both of their remaining matches to finish 1-2.

GW returns to the court in two weeks, concluding the fall schedule at the ITA Regional Championships from Oct. 16-18. The event is hosted by Virginia Tech at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va.
