Volleyball Falls to Ramblers in Five Set Thriller

CHICAGO -Â Despite its first and third set heroics, the GW volleyball team was bested by the A-10 defending champions in five sets on Friday evening in Chicago.Â

·      The hosts promptly bounced back in the second set, thwarting GW's momentum to claim the stanza, 25-17.Â
·      The Revolutionaries fought back in the third, battling through five ties and four lead changes. Late in the sequence, GW found its footing and was able to put the third away, 25-22.Â
·      In the fourth, GW was out-hit, 17-11, and held the momentum for much of the set until last minute efforts from the hosts forced extra points, and eventually won, 29-27.
·      The GW Revs struggled to find their footing in the fifth and final frame of the evening, allowing the hosts to take as much as a six-point lead and ultimately claim the match, 15-8.

·      GW's defense was in full force, with the blockers combining for 16 blocks, a season-high for the team.Â
·      Cianna Tejada led GW at the net, swinging 14 kills and chipping in on six blocks to total 17 points. Â
·      Cayla Cogan (11) and Sydney Hasenfratz (10) joined Tejada in double-digit kills, and the two attackers combined on an additional 12 blocks.Â
·      Abby Markwoth guided the offense with 47 assists.
·      In the backcourt, Penelope Hiepler, Amina Robinson, Alexis Rodriguez and Lydia Zeng amassed 42 of the team's 66 digs.Â
·      Six GW players earned a service ace.Â

·      The Buff & Blue opened the match with 6-1 advantage, forcing a Loyola timeout early on. Keeping the lead for the rest of the frame and behind 11 team kills, George Washington took the first set, 25-20. ·      The hosts promptly bounced back in the second set, thwarting GW's momentum to claim the stanza, 25-17.Â
