Volleyball Bests Duquesne on Senior Day

WASHINGTON — GW battled Duquesne through five sets on Senior Day, but the Buff & Blue came out on top in the regular-season finale to earn the conference series over the Dukes. With the win, the Buff & Blue finished second in the regular-season conference standings with a 12-6 A-10 mark, their best finish since 2014, and reached 12 conference wins for the first time since 2000.
HOW IT HAPPENED
· After celebrating the six seniors, the Revolutionaries jumped ahead to an early 2-0 lead over Duquesne, with set scores of 25-19 and 25-17, respectively. In the first two sets alone, GW out-hit the visitors, 36-18. The second stanza was also GW's most efficient, with the team notching a .467 hitting mark.
· Not willing to quit, the Dukes evened the match by taking the third and fourth sets to once again force a deciding fifth frame.
· The Buff & Blue allowed Duquesne three ties and two lead changes before cruising ahead to earn the match, 15-10. In the final frame, GW put down 11 kills and limited the visitors to just six.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
· Sydney Hasenfratz led the Buff & Blue on her senior day with 15 kills, hitting .700 while also putting together a season-best performance at the net with eight blocks, one of them solo.
· Alongside Hasenfratz, Cayla Cogan (14), Cianna Tejada (13), Alexis Rodriguez (13) and Taylor Treahy (12) each hit in double digits.
· Abby Markworth also put together a career performance at setter, dishing out 61 assists and adding in four kills of her own.
· Lydia Zeng led the backcourt with 23 of GW's 72 digs.
