CHICAGO - After falling in set one, GW volleyball rallied in three-straight sets against defending A-10 Champion Loyola Chicago, picking up its first-ever conference win over the Ramblers and earning a series split. With the win, the Revolutionaries move to 10-6 overall with a 3-1 mark in conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The hosts kickstarted the match, earning the opening frame, 25-18. 
  • The Revolutionaries immediately responded and behind 15 kills, took the second set, 25-17. 
  • Both the third and fourth stanzas featured extra points, with each going in favor of the Buff & Blue, 26-24. Through 16 ties and six lead changes, the GW Revs put together their best performance of the match in the final frame, putting down 20 kills and hitting .304 as a team to earn the win. 
  • After earning the series split, George Washington earns its first win over Loyola Chicago since 1994 and its first since the Ramblers joined the Atlantic 10 in 2022. 

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE NUMBERS

  • GW utilized six attackers throughout the match, with four swinging in double-digits. The Buff & Blue's leading attacker was Cayla Cogan. The sophomore tallied 15 kills and hit .300, while also chipping in two blocks to earn 16.5 points. 
  •  Sydney Hasenfratz (14), Alexis Rodriguez (13) and Taylor Treahy (10) were also dominant on the attack alongside Cogan. 
  • Rodriguez put together a double-double performance, matching her 13 kills with 13 digs in the backcourt. 
  • Contributing to the team's 67 digs were Penelope Hiepler (12), Amina Robinson (10) and Sadee Gedse (10). 
  • Cianna Tejada led GW at the net, contributing four blocks and adding nine kills. 
  • Abby Markworth put together another stellar performance as the starting setter, dishing out 50 assists and two kills of her own. 
GW now looks to bring its momentum back to the District, welcoming DMV foe George Mason to the Smith Center for a midweek conference clash. First serve is slotted for Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. in the Smith Center, and the match will be carried on ESPN+.
