Volleyball Honors Svetlana Vtyurina During Win Vs. Duquesne

WASHINGTON - GW volleyball fought back from a two-set deficit on Friday evening to overcome the Duquesne Dukes in five in front of a lively home crowd there to support Buff & Blue standout alumna Svetlana Vtyurina for her jersey retirement.
HOW IT HAPPENED
· GW fell behind early as the visitors claimed the first two sets at 25-20 apiece.
· The Buff & Blue battled through six ties and three lead changes in the third to force a fourth set, 25-18.
· Duquesne put down 15 kills in the fourth, but it was GW who rallied late in the frame with 18 kills to force extra points and earn the set, 27-25.
· In the match's deciding set, GW put down 10 kills and allowed only three ties from the Dukes as the Buff & Blue cruised ahead with the 15-9 win to earn the match.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
· Cayla Cogan proved to be GW's leader on Friday evening, putting together a career-high 18 kills with three blocks performance.
· Joining Cogan in hitting double figures were Alexis Rodriguez (12), Taylor Treahy and Sydney Hasenfratz (11). Rodriguez also led in the backcourt with 19 digs.
· Abby Markworth captained the attack with 53 assists, while Hasenfratz held down the front row with five blocks.
· As a team, the GW Revs out-hit the Dukes, 66-58.
Tomorrow, GW concludes its regular season at 1 p.m. to conclude the series with Duquesne. The match also serves as Senior Day, and the program's six seniors will be honored for their athletic and academic accomplishments.
