WASHINGTON – The George Washington baseball team earned five Atlantic 10 All-Conference honors, the league announced on Wednesday. Michael Foltz headlined the group with a First Team selection as a starting pitcher, while McGwire Tuffy (second base) and Robbie Lavey (designated hitter) were both Second Team honorees. Lavey was also picked as an All-Rookie Team selection, while Brandon Siegenthaler earned Academic All-Conference honors.
Foltz, who's in his second season with the Buff & Blue, was lights-out all season on the hill. Foltz started in 12 games this season, finishing with a 4-1 record and a 3.18 ERA, which ranked fourth-best in the A-10. Foltz threw a total of 65 innings this season, piling up 49 strikeouts and also led the conference in opponent batting average at .170. Foltz allowed a conference-low (among qualified pitchers) 39 hits this season and was fourth in total runs allowed at 29. He also ranked fourth in the A-10 in earned runs allowed with 23 and relinquished the fourth fewest home runs in the conference with four, all among qualified pitchers. Foltz concluded the regular season with an A-10 Pitcher of the Week selection on May 20 after tossing 7.2 innings and allowing zero earned runs in last week's win at Saint Joseph's. This is Foltz's first A-10 All-Conference honor.
Tuffy, a graduate transfer from Quinnipiac, made an instant impact in GW's lineup this season. Starting in 49 games at second base, Tuffy registered a .313 batting average and recorded 52 total hits. He notched 12 extra-base hits which included 10 doubles and two home runs. He also scored 29 runs for the GW offense and drove in 26 RBI on the season. His on-base percentage finished at .431 during the regular season after drawing 19 walks, and he stole 11 bases on 15 attempts. Despite his great offensive numbers, arguably Tuffy's greatest contribution to the team was his defensive presence. Tuffy recorded a .952 fielding percentage on the year, finishing with 76 put-outs and 144 assists. His 144 assists rank second in the A-10 and he was also part of 23 double plays which is eighth-best in the conference. This is Tuffy's first A-10 All-Conference honor.
Lavey, a first-year from Oakton, Va., was an immediate contributor upon arriving in Foggy Bottom this season. He appeared in 46 total games, mainly serving as the team's DH but also picking up time as a catcher as well. Lavey recorded a .325 batting average with 51 total hits on the year. He drove in 28 RBI, while tallying 32 runs scored. He finished the season with a .452 slugging percentage and drew 23 walks to finish with an on-base percentage of .410. Lavey stole seven bases on nine attempts and registered 16 multi-hit games in 2024. Lavey's most impressive multi-hit performance came on May 10th when he finished 6-for-6 from the plate against UMass. Lavey becomes the first GW player to record All-Rookie honors since Ty Acker in 2022, and the first rookie to earn a selection on an All-Conference team since Steve DiTomaso (Second Team shortstop) in 2021.
Siegenthaler, a graduate transfer from Villanova, got it done both on the field and in the classroom this season for GW. Pursuing a graduate certificate in Sport Management, Siegenthaler recorded a cumulative GPA of 3.90. On the field, Siegenthaler was a steady anchor in the GW pen. He appeared in 19 total games, making two starts on the mound. He led GW in wins and finished fourth in the conference with a 6-2 record. He also tallied a team-best six saves which ranks third in the A-10 and 65th in the nation. Siegenthaler held opposing batters to a .214 average and notched a 3.21 ERA, which was the lowest for a GW reliever this season. He recorded 39 total strikeouts in 2024 and allowed just 15 earned runs in 42 innings pitched. This is Siegenthaler's first A-10 Academic All-Conference honor.
