Volleyball Falls to Davidson in Five Set Thriller

WASHINGTON -Â After winning the first two sets in Sunday's series finale, the GW volleyball team fell to Davidson in a five-set thriller at the Smith Center, splitting the series with the Wildcats. With the split, GW now moves to 5-2 in A-10 play this season.Â

BY THE NUMBERS
First-year Taylor Treahy once again had a strong showing on offense, registering 11 kills and two service aces. Senior Salem Yohannes followed closely behind with 10, while senior MC Daubendiek tallied nine. Junior Amina Robinson also chipped in three service aces, while middle blockers Sydney Stewart and Cianna Tejada clocked nine blocks at the net for the GW defense.Â
Across the net, Isabel Decker tallied 22 kills for Davidson Sunday to propel the 3-2 victory for the Wildcats.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first two sets were a strong showcase for the Revolutionaries, with GW taking a lead early on in the first. Davidson would eventually tie the set and claim the lead, but GW fought back, winning the first 25-22. The second was GW's most efficient, swinging .333 and tallying 17 kills to earn a 25-20 victory over the 'Cats.Â

Moving to set three, the Davidson momentum picked up, and the match began to sway in favor of the visitors. With no lead changes or ties in the third, the 'Cats claimed the sequence.Â

In the fourth, GW put up a hard-fought battle. With 17 ties and 10 lead changes, the set was played to extra points. The Wildcats came up with a few key plays late to narrowly win the fourth, 31-29.Â

In the fifth, the Revolutionaries struggled to find their footing, and a long service run from Davidson's Jordan Hummel eventually propelled the 'Cats to win the set 15-4 and secure the match.Â
