WASHINGTON - GW men's basketball returns to the Smith Center for its lone home game in a three-week stretch when it hosts La Salle on Saturday night at 6 p.m. The game will be televised on Monumental Sports Network and streamed on ESPN+.
GAMEDAY PROMOTIONS: Saturday's game, presented by Metro, will also serve as GW's Coaches vs. Cancer "Suits and Sneakers" game in conjunction with the American Cancer Society and NABC to raise awareness in the mission to end cancer for everyone.
Additionally, the team will be wearing golf shoelaces as part of the Go4theGoal game in support of the Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer® initiative. This program started in 2011 and continues providing much-needed assistance for kids battling cancer.
The first 250 GW students in attendance on Saturday will receive a new GW canvas tote bag. There is also a pregame Rally in the Alley behind Smith Center starting at 4:30 p.m.
MAKE OR BREAK BEHIND THE LINE
Richmond made 12-of-23 (52.2%) 3-pointers in Tuesday's night's setback, continuing a trend of opponents being red-hot from beyond the arc in GW losses this season.
Overall, GW opponents are making an average of 14 3-pointers in the five losses at a 44% clip. Comparatively, in GW's 14 wins, opponents are making just seven triples per game and shooting 27% from beyond the arc. GW has allowed at least eight 3-pointers in all five of its setbacks this season and is 6-5 overall in such instances.
FIRST ROAD BUMP OF THE YEAR
GW has dropped back-to-back games for the first time this season with the first blip of the year on the offensive end. The Buff & Blue had shot 40% or better in each of its first 17 games, but has been held below 38% each of the last two contests and is shooting just 36.9% from the floor over the last 80 minutes.
GW has also posted its two lowest effective FG%s of the season in the last two games and has struggled inside the arc, shooting just 40% (30/75) compared to the season average of 50.5%.
A LOOK AT THE EXPLORERS
La Salle enters Saturday's game at 1-5 in league play having dropped four-straight contests following its lone A-10 win at Fordham. The Explorers feature a balanced attack with four players averaging double figures, led by the backcourt of Khalil Brantley and Jhamir Brickus, both of whom average over 14.0 ppg. Anwar Gill, who returned on Tuesday after missing the last four games, puts up 10.5 ppg and Daeshon Shepard contributes 10.0 ppg and a team-high 6.2 rpg.
La Salle has struggled on the offensive end recently, being held to 65 points or fewer in each of the last four contests and in all five of their A-10 losses. The Explorers are 14th in the league in offensive efficiency during league play and last in effective field goal percentage.
