Men’s Basketball Defeated by La Salle, 80-70
1/27/2024 8:48:00 PM | Men's Basketball
WASHINGTON - For just the second time this season, the GW Revs fell on their home floor, in a 80-70 setback to visiting La Salle. With the result George Washington now stands at 14-6 overall and 3-4 in league play as the midpoint of the A-10 slate approaches.
GW trailed by just four at halftime, 37-33, and despite making several rally attempts in the second when it seemed like a play or two would swing momentum, the visiting Explorers found an answer every time. Darren Buchanan Jr. did his best to keep the game close, double-doubling with 24 points and 12 rebounds, with 15 of his game-high two dozen coming after halftime. The performance from the D.C. product wasn't enough to overcome the job done by La Salle's small but speedy tandem of Khalil Brantley and Jhamir Brickus, who made play after play to answer every GDUB surge.
Brickus and Brantley netted a combined 39 points and 12 assists, with four of the guest's 10 made three-pointers on the night (10-of-19, .526), continuing a trend that has seen Revolutionaries' opponents strike fire in GW's losses this season. Entering play tonight George Washington had seen the opposition find the range from deep with a success rate north of 44% in its five losses, while foes were futile to the tune of 27% three-point shooting in the GW Revs' 14 wins.
It didn't help matters that George Washington was only able to answer with a 3-of-18 night from behind the arc.
The road ahead doesn't let up as George Washington next does battle at Dayton Tuesday. Tip time with the nationally-ranked Flyers is 7 p.m. at UD Arena live on ESPN+.
