WASHINGTON - The GW women's basketball team returned home Saturday after splitting a pair of road contests at St. Bonaventure and Dayton last week. The reigning A-10 Champion Saint Louis Billikens awaited the Revolutionaries and showed off their championship pedigree in a 66-56 road win.
A game after sophomore Nya Robertson netted a career-high 31 points, the conference's second-leading scorer couldn't get it going, tallying four points without making a three-pointer, uncharacteristic for the 2023 Sixth Woman of the Year, who entered play averaging 17.5 points per contest with a .351 three-point percentage, having canned six threes last outing.
Nya Lok paced George Washington in scoring with 19 points (6-12 FG, 3-6 3pt.), while Mayowa Taiwo had one of her more complete games of the season with a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.
GDUB kept it close at first before SLU closed the first quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 19-10 after 10 minutes. The Billikens would go on to lead 37-22 at the break.
The visitors saw two players reach the 20-point mark, Kyla McMakin with a game-high 21 points and Peyton Kennedy with 20 even and played with a lead for the duration of the second half, answering every potential GW rally to hold the hosts at bay.
Women's basketball in Foggy Bottom returns Wednesday for Staff and Faculty Day, with George Mason making the short trip for a noon tip-off on ESPN+.
