Moran, Kessler tally hat tricks in Revolutionary Rivalry triumph
WASHINGTON - GW lacrosse entered the fourth quarter of its Revolutionary Rivalry matchup with George Mason all squared at 11, but controlled the final 15 minutes, scoring the only two goals in the frame to earn a 13-11 victory.
The back-and-forth contest saw neither team lead by more than two in the entire game. The Buff & Blue never trailed in the second half after going into halftime tied at eight, but saw Mason rally to tie the game at 10 and 11. Everly Kessler then took over late for GW, scoring the final three goals of the contest, including the ultimate game-winner with 13:39 to go in the fourth.
The story of the fourth quarter, though, was GW's defense and goalie Mia Caro. The Buff & Blue blanked the Patriots in the final stanza as Caro came up with four stops, including one on a free position attempt in the final two minutes of the game to essentially seal the contest.
NOTEWORTHY
- Kessler and Whitney Moran each recorded a hat trick to pace the Colonial attack. Kessler added an assist to notch a four-point game.
