Moran leads all scorers with five goals
RICHMOND, Va. – Seven third-quarter goals for GW lacrosse created enough separation for the Buff & Blue to pull out the 17-13 victory at VCU on Saturday. The triumph marked GW's third-straight this season and third in a row against the Rams.
Both teams were evenly matched from the opening draw, with VCU's largest lead coming at 7-4 in the final 10 minutes of the second quarter.
At the nine-minute mark, Kerry McKeever started the offense for GW and later got some help from Amber Germer and Grace Curry to tie the contest at seven heading into halftime.
Out of the break, GW's smothering offense continued with three-straight scores from McKeever and one each from Whitney Moran and Germer before VCU put a stop to the 8-0 run. GW would score two more in the quarter thanks to Moran, outscoring the Rams 7-2 in the frame to sketch a 14-9 lead.
In the fourth, GW tacked on two goals to its already established lead and was able to stave off any comeback attempt from the home team, who went on a three-goal run to cut the deficit to four. The Buff & Blue allowed just one more goal and Everly Kessler found the back of the net for GW to set the final score of 17-13.
