Volleyball Travels to Saint Louis for Final Matches of 2023 Regular Season

WASHINGTON – The George Washington volleyball team travels west to Saint Louis this weekend for the final matches of the 2023 regular season. The Buff & Blue battle the Billikens on Friday at 7 p.m., and again on Saturday at 3 p.m. Both matches will be carried live on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
GW hosted VCU last weekend for the final pair of home matches during the 2023 season. The matches came on the heels of the President Inauguration of Dr. Ellen Granberg. Granberg was inaugurated as the 19th President of GW on Friday, sparking a flurry of events inside the Smith Center including the two volleyball matches and concluding with a men's and women's basketball doubleheader on Monday.
On Saturday, GW fell in a tight battle with the Rams. After leading 2-1, GW dropped the final two sets of the match to lose in five. Sunday's match marked Senior Day for the volleyball program. Prior to the match, Liv Womble, Markella Lanara, Elizabeth Drelling and student manager Anna Rubin were honored for their contributions to the program and overall academic achievements. The Buff & Blue fell in straight sets to the Rams, putting a cap on the team's 2023 home slate.
SCOUTING THE BILLIKENS
Saint Louis enters the weekend with an overall record of 13-15 and a 6-10 record in the A-10. Last weekend, the Billikens were swept by Davidson on the road. The Wildcats defeated Saint Louis in a thrilling 3-2 match on Friday and were swept in straight sets on Saturday.
The Billikens are led by Delany Rice with 341 kills on the season. Rice averages 3.02 kills per set and holds a .207 hitting percentage on the year. Emily Henken has also enjoyed a successful 2023 campaign with 267 kills this year. Henken averages 3.03 kills per set and has a team-high 36 service aces this year. Saint Louis has two setters with over 500 assists this season. Addie Lyon (564) and Kate Aupperle (562) have near identical numbers on the season. Lyon averages 6.34 assists per set while Aupperle averages 5.06 per frame. Defensively, the Billikens are led by Carlie Rodgers with 534 digs on the season, while Henken and Aupperle both have 200 digs each. Jillian Mattingly leads the team with 89 total blocks on the season as well.
