Golf Finishes Fifth at Elon Phoenix Invitational

BURLINGTON, N.C. - GW golf found itself atop the leaderboard after 18 holes at the Elon Phoenix Invitational and posted its best 18-, 36- and 54-hole scores of the campaign thus far while finishing fifth as a team.
The Buff & Blue shot out of the gate with an 8-under 276 on Monday morning, thanks in part to dueling 68s from Hugo Riboud and Rodrigo Barahona. The round was GW's best of the year so far and fifth-best in program history.Â
The Revolutionaries cooled a bit on Monday afternoon, but still posted a 1-under 283, led by Jakub Hrinda's 2-under 69. GW's combined score of 559 through 36 holes is the third-best in program history.
Hrinda again led the way in Tuesday's final round, shooting 68 to finish t-10 with a 6-under 207. Jed Dy also posted 68 on Tuesday to finish t-28 with a 1-under 212. The round of the day, though, came from Leo Xu competing as an individual. Xu carded nine birdies in his round, including six in a row at one point to shoot a 5-under 66.
GW's team score of 841 was the best of the season so far and third-best in program history, trailing only the VCU Shootout (829) and Pacific Visit Stockton Invitational (839) last fall.Â
