PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. - GW golf tallied its lowest team score of the season in a third-place finish at the Golfweek/Stifel Spring Challenge completed on Wednesday, marking the second top-three finish in the last three events for the Buff & Blue.
The Revolutionaries' team total of 856 was not only a season-best, but the ninth lowest 54-hole score in program history. The score to par of 8-under is the sixth-best all-time and the lowest since October 2023. GW opened the tournament with a 2-under 286 on Monday followed by a season-low 8-under 280 on Tuesday, before rounding out with a 2-over 290 on Wednesday.
Leading the charge yet again for George Washington was senior Manuel Barbachano, who tallied a third-place finish with a 7-under 209, two shots off the individual title. The personal best for Barbachano, featuring all three rounds under par, is tied for the sixth-lowest score to par in program history and lowest for a Revolutionary since Jakub Hrinda in September 2023 (-10).
Evan Eichenlaub recorded a top-10 finish with a 2-under 214, carding under-par rounds on Tuesday and Wednesday while Adam Bencik also finished in red figures with a 1-under 215 thanks to rounds of 71 and 69 to open his tournament.
Connecticut rallied to win the team title with a 7-under 281 on Wednesday to finish at -15, surging two shots ahead of UAB, with GW joining them as the only squads under par out of 16.
Now, George Washington turns its attention to the Atlantic 10 Championship held at the Evermore Resort in Orlando, Fla., from April 27-29.
