BURLINGTON, N.C. - GW golf set multiple program bests on Monday and Tuesday at the Elon Phoenix Invitational, ultimately posting the second-best, 54-hole score in program history while finishing in a tie for sixth.
Thanks to a 14-under 270 second round that set the program record for lowest single round ever, George Washington carded a 15-under 837 over the two days, finishing eight strokes behind the program mark set at VCU in 2022. The 15-under mark was also the second-lowest ever relative to par.
GW entered the final day having reset the program standard for a 36-hole total at 553, one better than the aforementioned VCU Shootout four years ago. Monday's second round featured all five players finishing under par, led by Evan Eichenlaub's 65, which marked just the sixth round of 65 or better in program history.
Eichenlaub finished individually in seventh with an 11-under 202, tied for the second-lowest individual total in program annals behind Jakub Hrinda's 199 in 2022 and fourth-lowest score to par.Â
GW finished in a tie for sixth in the low-scoring tournament with Campbell setting the pace via 32-under 820.
The Buff & Blue wrap up the fall season in two weeks, hosting the annual Monterrey Collegiate Classic in Monterrey, Mexico on October 26-27.
