Powered by the 7th-lowest round in program history, GW golf stormed up the team leaderboard on Tuesday in Mexico to claim the team trophy at the Monterrey Collegiate Classic as the host school.
With three student-athletes hailing from Monterrey, GW felt at home Tuesday on the links. The Revolutionaries powered past Howard, Idaho, Utah St. and Loyola Maryland, who they trailed entering the final round, with a -11 Round Three, six shots clear of the field, to finish the 54-hole championship at one-over par.
Loyola Maryland (+4) and Howard (+6) were the lone two other schools in the field of 10 to finish within 10 of par for the tournament.
Patricio Gonzalez (-5), Maxine Lam (-4) and Evan Eichenlaub (-3) led the way to the top Tuesday, sending George Washington to the spring championship season on a winning note with the team's second team title of the fall after also claiming The Goat at Navy last month. Lam and Eichenlaub paced GW in the event with dueling -1 scores.Â
