Barbachano Finishes Eighth at Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase

MONTGOMERY, Texas -Â GW golf's Manuel Barbachano showcased his talents across a select field of collegiate golfers on Thursday afternoon at the rescheduled Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase, posting a 2-under 70 to finish in eighth place out of 19 competitors.
Originally scheduled for mid-February at Riviera Country Club, but rained out, the event was moved to Bluejack National in Montgomery, Texas on Thursday with the winner of the event playing their way into a PGA TOUR event this season.
Barbachano played alongside last year's winner, Reese Knox of Boise State, and opened with eight straight pars before a bogey on nine. The backside was a different story as the senior found his first birdie at the par-five 13th and then carded back-to-back circles on 16 and 17 to finish the event in red figures.
San Jose State's Avinash Iyer won the competition with an 8-under 64.
Barbachano will rejoin his teammates for the final team event of the regular season next week at the Golfweek/Stifel Spring Challenge. The first round will tee off Monday morning from True Blue Golf Club in Pawleys Island, S.C.
