Volleyball Set for Three-Match Weekend

GW to play Binghamton, Rider and Georgetown across Friday and Saturday
WASHINGTONÂ - GW volleyball returns to the Smith Center on Friday for a pair of matches vs. Binghamton (noon) and Rider (6 p.m.). GW will round out its three-match weekend on Saturday with a 1 p.m. first serve at Georgetown.Â
LAST TIME OUTÂ
The Buff & Blue secured a pair of wins as part of a 2-1 weekend at the Bucknell Invitational last weekend. After dropping its opening match to Bucknell on Friday night, GW took LIU to five sets on Saturday, overcoming a 2-1 set deficit to clinch Head Coach Katie Reifert's first win in the Buff & Blue. GW went on to sweep NJIT in its most efficient match of the season and first 3-0 win since November 16, 2019.
ON THE ATTACKÂ
GW's .247 hitting efficiency vs. NJIT was its second-highest hitting percentage since the team registered a .280 vs. George Mason last season. GW recorded 41 kills in the three sets, led by junior opposite Liv Womble's 13. Womble set a career-high with a .478 hitting percentage on 23 attempts with just two errors. Womble is second on the team with 73 kills this season, three shy of outside hitter Elizabeth Drelling (76).Â
Brittany Myers, a second-year transfer from Rhode Island, also had a memorable weekend, posting a pair of double-figure outings on Saturday, highlighted by a career-high 20 kills vs. LIU. Myers added 10 kills vs. NJIT, bringing her season total of 35.Â
A LOOK AT BINGHAMTON
Binghamton (5-1) is coming off a 3-0 weekend at the Central Connecticut State Tournament, with straight-set victories over CCSU, Columbia and Saint Peter's. Following the weekend, first-year opposite Giulia Bonifacio was named America East Player and Rookie of the Week after contributing 32 kills with a .262 hitting percentage. Bonifacio stuffed the stat sheet with 22 digs, eight blocks and five service aces. Her .292 overall hitting percentage is good enough for sixth in the conference.Â
READY FOR RIDER
The Broncos are 1-5 overall, with their lone win coming in a 3-1 victory over Cleveland State last weekend at the Lehigh Tournament. Rider is led by senior Morgan Romano, who has 51 kills this season, averaging 2.32 kills/set behind a .123 hitting percentage.Â
SCOUTING THE HOYASÂ
Georgetown (0-6) will look to clinch its first win of 2022 this weekend, welcoming Rider and Binghamton to McDonough Arena before its Saturday afternoon matchup with GW. Mary Grace Goyena has been the Hoyas' most productive offensive threat thus far, with 61 kills and 2.95 kills/set. Goyena is also second on the team with 57 digs to go along with her team-leading 10 aces.Â
