GW tops Rider in five-set victory
WASHINGTON – GW volleyball took down Rider in five sets (25-21, 25-27, 25-22, 17-25, 15-13) to clinch a victory as part of a 1-1 day that saw GW fall to Binghamton, 3-0, in the opening match of Dig the District.

GAME 1Â
Liv Womble led the GW offense with nine kills and Elizabeth Drelling and MC Daubendiek added eight apiece. Dilara Elmacioglu registered 13 assists and Grace Allread dished out 10. Elmacioglu also led the GW defense with eight digs.
GAME 2
Womble again led GW with 13 kills, swinging for .257 with just four errors. Daubendiek added 10 kills with a .147 hitting percentage. Tierra Porter came up big for GW at the net, registering a career-high 16 blocks to go along with five kills. Bella Bowman scooped up 25 digs to lead GW's defense with Maeve Loughran and Allread adding 15 digs apiece. Loughran added 17 assists to set a career high and record her first double-double in Buff & Blue. Allread tallied 22 assists.
GW recorded 20 blocks to Rider's eight and out-hit its opponent .163 to .131 despite registering 48 kills to Rider's 66. In addition, GW limited its errors to 20, while Rider accounted for 40.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1Â
GW's most efficient offense came in set one, with 13 kills behind a .216 efficiency. GW fell into a 10-3 deficit and put down eight kills midway through the opening frame, but Binghamton still held a nine-point cushion at 22-13. GW went on to avoid three set points by the Bearcats, but a kill from the visitors put set one away.
A five-point Bearcat rally began set two before the Buff & Blue tallied five-straight points of their own to nearly erase the Binghamton lead at 9-8. However, the visitors would never surrender a lead in the second set, powered by a pair of four-point rallies to go ahead 2-0 in the match.
Five ties began set three, but Binghamton pulled away at 11-6, boosted by a six-point scoring run. The Bearcats extended their lead to 21-11 before putting the match away with back-to-back kills.
GAME 2Â
The five-set match saw the two teams trade sets, with Rider forcing a fifth set behind an efficient fourth set that featured the largest margin of victory this evening.
The second frame featured 14 ties, including a 25-25 tie, before Rider buried two kills to even the match at one set each. GW rode a six-point scoring run in set three to cruise to a 2-1 set advantage before momentum swung in favor of the Broncs, who took control of set four powered by a 5-1 scoring rally.
GW stretched a lead early in the fifth, going up 6-1 and staving off a Rider comeback which saw the Broncs get within one point. GW went on to score three straight, including a match-clinching block from Addie Feek and Drelling, to lift GW to its first win of the season on home court.
