Colonials wrap up A-10 slate against the Explorers
WASHINGTON - GW women's basketball wraps up Atlantic 10 regular season play on Saturday afternoon, facing off against La Salle on Senior Day at the Charles E. Smith Center at 2 p.m. on ESPN+. The Buff & Blue will honor senior Maddie Loder and graduate students Kyara Frames and Sierra Bell before tip-off.
UPDATED ATTENDANCE POLICY
For indoor events at the Charles E. Smith Center, in compliance with University regulations, all guests ages 5-and-over will need to show their proof of vaccination by one of the following methods:
* The CLEAR Health Pass app on a mobile device
* Physical Center for Disease Control (CDC) vaccination card
* Digital copy of CDC vaccination card
Using the CLEAR Health Pass is not required. Individuals who do not register through the CLEAR Health Pass will need to show a copy of their Centers for Disease Control (CDC) vaccination card and a government-issued photo ID (for those 18 and up).
Limited exemptions will be permitted for those who are medically exempt or unable to take the vaccine out of a sincerely held religious belief. These guests should be prepared to provide the following:
-Documentation of a medical exemption, such as a note from a medical provider, or documentation of a religious exemption, such as an attestation that they have a sincerely held religious belief, AND Proof of a negative PCR or antigen test within 24 hours of the event.
OFFENSIVE REBOUNDING MACHINE:
Following GW's game against Davidson on Wednesday, Mayowa Taiwo moved into the top-15 in the NCAA in offensive rebounds per game. Taiwo is averaging four offensive boards, which is tied for 15th best in the country, and is first among all A-10 players. The Hanover, Md. native is averaging 8.5 rpg overall, which is fourth best in the A-10.
MAKE YOUR FREE THROWS COUNT:
To end its regular season with a W, GW look to cash in from the charity stripe. Over the last two games, the team has shot just 11-of-35 from the free throw line (35 percent). During the team's recent four-game win streak, GW was knocking down free throws at a 57 percent clip. This season, George Washington has 10 wins when shooting at least 50 percent from the free-throw line.
SCOUTING LA SALLE:
La Salle enters Saturday having won three straight games, tied with Dayton for the longest win streak in the A-10. The Explorers have been flexing their offensive muscles during the win streak, averaging 73 points.
La Salle's success can be attributed to do-it-all senior Kayla Spruill. Spruill, a preseason all-conference second team selection, is fourth in the conference in points per game (16.0), first in 3-point field goal percentage (.472), and eighth in rebounding (7.1 rpg).
HISTORY AGAINST THE EXPLORERS
Saturday's game between the Colonials and Explorers will be the 45th all-time meeting between the two programs. GW holds an impressive 37-7 record against its A-10 rival, but La Salle has won back-to-back contests against the Buff & Blue. The last meeting between the two sides took place on January 22nd of last season, and resulted in a 60-45 Explorers' win. In that contest, GW grad student Sydney Zambrotta scored 17, but the Colonials defense had no answer for Kayla Spruill, who scored 23.
