Lacrosse Drops Season Opener at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – GW lacrosse opened its 2022 season on the road at Navy on Saturday, dropping a 16-3 decision vs. the Midshipmen.
First-year Ashley Geyer scored the first goal of her collegiate career, drawing a foul to earn a free position shot.
Maddy O'Brien scored GW's first goal of the game late in the first quarter and Tori Hampton found the back of the net in the final quarter of play.Â
Navy's offense began striking in the opening quarter, netting seven of the team's 16 goals in the first 15 minutes to take a 7-1 advantage. The Midshipmen tacked on four more goals in the second quarter to take a commanding 11-1 lead into the break.
In the final 30 minutes of action, GW's defensive effort and five saves by goalie Megan Patrick held Navy to five goals. Patrick ended her night with 13 total saves. GW got off 13 total shots and put 11 on net, with Hampton tallying a team-leading three. Â
First-years Emily Mowbray, Katie Hipp and Brynn Cohen made their first career starts, and Yasmin Pang got her first opportunity in a Buff & Blue uniform in the fourth quarter.
