WASHINGTON - George Washington women's basketball continues its four-game road stretch on Wednesday when they head out to Olean, NY to face off with A-10 rival St. Bonaventure. Wednesday's contest, which was originally scheduled for January 15th, but was postponed due to Covid-19 health and safety protocols, will tip off at 7 p.m. from the Reilly Center. Live coverage can be seen on ESPN+.
MAYOWA ON THE GLASS
In GW's last contest against George Mason, Mayowa Taiwo continued to provide a spark for the Buff & Blue. The redshirt junior pulled in a career-high 17 rebounds against the Patriots, while also dropping a team-high 10 points as part of her second double-double of the season.
Since conference play began, Taiwo has been on a rebounding tear. She is currently tied for the A-10 lead in offensive rebounds per game (4.0), and is fourth in the conference in total rebounds per game with 8.5. For her efforts this past week, Taiwo was named to the A-10's weekly honor roll.
KYARA 1K
On Wednesday against St. Bonaventure, graduate student Kyara Frames will have a chance to reach a grand milestone: the 1,000 point plateau. Currently, Frames sits at 986 career points, just 14 points shy of the 1K mark.
For Frames, the journey to 1000 began on November 10th, 2017, when the Laurel, Md. native pocketed her first points against Maryland for the Albany Great Danes. Frames went on to score 893 points for Albany before dropping another 93 as a Colonial. Should she reach the milestone, she will be the first GW player since 2018 to score her 1000th point while wearing the Buff & Blue.
SCOUTING ST. BONAVENTURE:
Entering the 2021-22 season, the Bonnies checked in at 13th in the A-10's preseason poll. St. Bonaventure had a successful non-conference slate, going 8-3 and securing wins over Robert Morris, Marshall and Binghamton, among others. However, the start of conference play has not seen the same success, as Bona has lost six out of its first eight A-10 games.
Offensively, the Bonnies are led by senior Asianae Johnson, who is currently fourth in the A-10 in scoring (17.7 ppg). Johnson can also set up her teammates, as the senior's 3.3 assists per game are ranked 10th in the conference.
HISTORY AGAINST THE BONNIES:
Wednesday will be the 47th meeting between GW and St. Bonaventure. To date, GW boasts an impressive 38-8 record against its conference rival. Last year, the Buff & Blue faced off with the Bonnies at the Smith Center on Feb. 14 and came away with the 56-39 victory. Current Colonial Essence Brown scored 10 points and pulled down seven boards during last year's win.
