Buff and Blue looking for its 14th and 15th straight victories on Saturday
WASHINGTON - #19 GW men's water polo is looking for its 14th and 15th wins in a row, facing off against the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers (12 p.m.) and the Bucknell Bison (6 p.m.) on Saturday.
The Colonials start the day with a game in Emmitsburg, M.D. before making the two hour trip to Lewisburg, P.A..
Last Time Out:
GW hosted three MAWPC games last weekend at the Charles E. Smith Center, and put on a show. The weekend began with an 11-9 victory over Bucknell on Saturday afternoon, then a 15-10 win against Wagner on Saturday night. The weekend was capped off with a 14-12 nailbiter over Navy.
Rising the Ranks:
GW has moved into sole possession of 19th place in the latest CWPA polls. The Buff and Blue recieved a season-high 13 points in the poll, up from eight points in last week's poll. GW ranks second in the MAWPC poll, voted just one point behind #18 Fordham.
Calling on Castorina:
Goalkeeper Luca Castorina has been a large part of GW's success. Castorina has played in all 14 games this season, posting a .553 save percentage keeping the Colonials in a lot of games. GW won two of its three games last weekend by two-goal margins, much in thanks to Castorina's spectacular saves.
More on the Mountaineers:
Mount St. Mary's water polo is entering competition owning an 11-6 record, including a 4-3 record in conference. The Mountaineers have dropped MAWPC games to Navy, Fordham, and Salem, but found success against Mercyhurst, Gannon, McKendree, and most recently Johns Hopkins. Tommaso Baldineti is leading the Mountaineers with 90 goals, which includes a 10-goal explosion in their game against Gannon.
'Bout Bucknell:
Bucknell is coming into the weekend at 9-7, with a 6-2 record in conference. The Bison haven't played since falling to GW last weekend at the Smith Center. Bucknell is hosting Johns Hopkins on Saturday at 12 p.m., before welcoming the Colonials for a rematch of last weekend at 6 p.m.. Aleksa Stefanovic continues to be Bucknell's leading scorer, with 44 goals in 14 games played.
