BRONX, N.Y. – GW water polo was defeated by Fordham in the MAWPC Championship final, 16-9, on Sunday afternoon in the Bronx.
The Revolutionaries needed a perfect storm to brew if they were going to beat the fifth-ranked team in the nation in their home pool, and they looked to have the right recipe to start the game. The first quarter played even as each team scored three times, and GW scored early in the second quarter to assume a 4-3 lead.
It was at that point that the momentum flipped and Fordham began to assert its command. The Rams rattled off four consecutive goals to close the half with a 7-4 lead and continued their charge in the third quarter by outscoring GW, 6-3. GW trailed by six to begin the fourth quarter and wasn't able to muster a comeback, as Fordham won its fifth consecutive MAPWC Championship.
Offensively, GW was led by Adonis Vlassis and Andrea Forno, each with three goals in the championship match. Vasilije Marinkovic stood tall in net with 13 saves.
GW finished the 2025 season at 16-16 overall. The Revolutionaries made it farther in the postseason than any GW water polo team since 2019.
