SPRINGFIELD, Va. – (RV) GW water polo completed its penultimate weekend of the regular season at The St. James on Sunday with a 19-14 win over Wagner, before falling 25-14 to No. 5 Fordham. GW moved to 14-14 overall with a 7-4 mark in the MAWPC.
(RV) GW 19, Wagner 14
GW got its payback against Wagner after falling in the first match of the year. GW took a lead halfway through the first quarter and never gave it up, building a five-goal edge at 9-4 just before half. The Seahawks showed resilience and chopped GW's lead to just one at 9-8 at the start of the third quarter, but the Buff & Blue dominated the middle stretch of the second half with a 6-1 run, creating the separation they needed to secure the 19-14 win.
Senior Adonis Vlassis was a terror for the Revolutionaries, accounting for more than half of the offense with a GW career-high 10 goals. Antonio Florena and Andrea Forno each made their impacts felt, as Florena had two goals and four assists, while Forno scored three times and drew five exclusions.
(RV) GW 14, Fordham 25
A tight first half had the GW faithful hoping the Revolutionaries would hand Fordham its first loss in conference since 2021, but the Rams lived up to its No. 5 national ranking in the second half, snatching the win with a dominant showing. Forno led the Buff & Blue with five goals, while Vlassis, Florena and Ben McDade each contributed two.
