ARLINGTON, Va. – GW water polo faced off against Navy on Senior Day at Long Bridge Park, with both teams sitting just outside the national top 20 and having received votes in the most recent poll. The Midshipmen came away with a 14–11 victory in the regular-season finale, as GW closed the regular season with a 14–15 overall record and a 7–5 mark in MAWPC play.
After a slow start, the Buff & Blue rallied late but couldn't complete the comeback. Navy built a 7–3 lead by halftime, holding GW's offense in check through the first two quarters. The Midshipmen extended their advantage in the third, outscoring the Revolutionaries 4–2 to take an 11–6 lead into the final period.
GW fought back with three quick goals in the fourth to cut the deficit to 11–9 at the 5:25 mark, but Navy held firm down the stretch to secure the win.
No Revolutionary had more than two goals in the finale. First-year Austin Nelson led the team in points with three assists and one goal, while Anthony Ferneini, Joseph McCreary and Antonio Florena contributed two goals apiece. Connor Jermain made five saves in net.
The Revolutionaries will await the end of regular-season play around the conference to determine its seeding in the MAWPC Championship, which will be played Nov. 21-23 in the Bronx, N.Y., hosted by Fordham.
