GW water polo finished the weekend at 0-3 in MAWPC games, falling to No. 17 Navy, Mount St. Mary's and No. 5 Fordham. GW fell to 10-12 overall with a 1-6 record in MAWPC play.
GW 15, No. 17 Navy 19
GW played Navy tight throughout in their matchup in Annapolis, but the home Midshipmen never trailed in their 19-15 home win. It was just a one-score game at halftime and after the third quarter, as GW trailed 13-12 with eight minutes to play, but a three-goal spurt to start the fourth opened the gap and boosted Navy to victory. Konstantinos Kapragkos led GW with five goals, while Andrea Forno added three scores.
GW 13, Mount St. Mary's 17
On Saturday, GW traveled to Emmitsburg, Md., to take on Mount St. Mary's in its home opener, and the Mount were ready to defend their home pool as GW fell, 17-13. The middle two quarters are where it fell apart for GW, as after finishing the first tied 3-3, Mount St. Mary's outscored GW 5-1 in the second and 6-3 in the third to assume a 14-7 lead, which was too big a deficit for GW to climb out of.
GW 10, No. 5 Fordham 21
The top-ranked team in the MAWPC, nationally-fifth ranked Fordham, proved too tall of a task for GW Sunday as the two battled in Annapolis. GW hung around in the first half, down 5-2 after one and 10-6 at halftime, but Fordham's depth showed in the second half as it outscored GW 8-1 in the third quarter on the way to the 21-10 win. Yam Kabakov led the Revolutionaries in the weekend finale with four goals.
