Hall of Famer to compete in both bobsled events at Beijing Games
ST. MORITZ, Switzerland - GW softball alumna Elana Meyers Taylor is headed back to the Olympics for a fourth time, looking to add to her medal collection at next month's Beijing Games.
Meyers Taylor (B.S. '06, M.T.A. '11, HON '18) was among 12 athletes officially named to Team USA by USA Bobsled/Skeleton on Monday morning. She will serve as a pilot in the two-woman bobsled, the event in which she claimed Olympics silver in 2014 and 2018 and bronze in 2010, as well as the women's monobob, which makes its Olympic debut this time around.
Four years ago, Meyers Taylor captured silver in PyeongChang with Lauren Gibbs to join Kaillie Humphries as the first athletes to secure three Olympic bobsled medals.Â
At age 37 less than two years after the birth of her son Nico, the former Colonial is still going strong. She'll be among the favorites for gold in Beijing after wrapping up the 2021-22 World Cup titles in both disciplines over the weekend.
Aiming for more history, the trailblazing Meyers Taylor will compete in the monobob on Feb. 13-14 and the two-woman competition on Feb. 18-19 at the Xiaohaituo Bobsleigh and Luge Track. In the two-woman event, she will be paired with either Sylvia Hoffman or Aysha Love with the announcement to be made in the coming weeks. Her husband Nic Taylor was named as an alternate on the men's side.
The first recruit in the GW softball program's history, Meyers Taylor was a standout on the diamond before making the move to the ice.
The Georgia native was a leader during the fledgling program's early development before graduating as its all-time leader in nearly every offensive category, and she was honored along the way as a two-time A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year and CoSIDA Academic All-American.
Throughout her Olympic journey, Meyers Taylor's connection to the Buff and Blue has remained strong. She was inducted into the GW Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014, had her No. 24 retired at GW Softball Field later that year and received an honorary Doctorate of Public Service during university commencement ceremonies in 2018.
Most recently, Meyers Taylor was honored among the university's Monumental Alumni during its Bicentennial Celebration.
