Elana Meyers Taylor (B.S. '06, M.T.A. '11, HON '18) was GW softball's first-ever recruit and team MVP in every season. The Georgia native competed for the Colonials from 2003-2007, closing her career as the program's all-time record holder in nearly every offensive category. She's gone on to a decorated career in the sport of bobsled, becoming the first American woman to win three Olympic medals.
On the diamond, Meyers Taylor not only threw the first pitch and earned the first win in program history, but she also recorded the team's first hit and scored its first run. She was the first Colonial to bat above .400 for a season, doing so in 2006 and 2007.
A two-time Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team selection and GW's first-ever All-Region honoree when she earned first-team accolades in 2007, Meyers Taylor was also the A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year for softball and an Academic All-American in 2006 and 2007. She became the first softball alum elected to the GW Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014 and had her No. 24 retired in a ceremony at the GW Softball Field on the Mount Vernon Campus later that year.
Meyers Taylor is now a member of the U.S. national bobsled team, winning a bronze medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, a silver at the 2014 Sochi Games and another silver at the 2018 PyeongChang Games.
In May 2018, Meyers Taylor was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Public Service as part of University Commencement festivities.
