Men's Water Polo Closes Opening Weekend

Buff & Blue downed by No. 3 Cal on Sunday
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - GW men's water polo wrapped its opening weekend of play Sunday, falling 22-10 to No. 3 Cal at Lejeune Hall.
The Buff and Blue finished 1-2 at the Navy Open with both setbacks coming vs. ranked opponents.
In Sunday's finale, GW hung tough vs. the nation's third-ranked squad. The Buff and Blue tied it at 2 on Nick Schroeder's goal midway through the opening quarter and were within two goals after eight minutes. They later edged within 13-10 on Schroeder's score with 3:30 left in the third quarter before the Bears pulled away.
Schroeder matched a career high with four goals to finish the weekend with a team-high eight scores.
Andras Levai notched two goals and three assists, while first-year Andrija Sekulic found the net twice to cap a productive opening weekend. Viktor Jovanovic scored a goal and boosted the offense by drawing a team-high four ejections.
GW is back in action next weekend with three games over two days at the Princeton Invitational.
