Colonials off to best conference start since 2010
ARLINGTON, Va. - In the opener of a weekend series between the teams with the top two win percentages in the A-10 South, GW baseball set the tone for the series with a 10-7 victory over Saint Louis on a wild day at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.
At 7-2 in league play, GW is off to its best start against conference foes under Gregg Ritchie and holds the program's best mark through nine A-10 games since 2010.
With winds whipping in excess of 30 miles per hour, GW (18-10, 7-2) came out roaring with six runs in the first two innings. Domenic Boselli started the festivities with a two-run double, kicking off a four-run first inning.
The Buff & Blue added on two more in the second via a bases loaded walk and a sac fly to grow the lead to 6-0.
Saint Louis (13-23, 3-2) pushed right back, scoring three runs in the third and three more in the fourth, sandwiched around a Anthony Frechette RBI single to get within one, 7-6.
Christopher Kahler came out of the bullpen to settle things down for GW, retiring the first seven he faced and ultimately retired eight of nine with the lone man reaching on an error. The scoreless, hitless outing earned him his second win of the season.
The Colonials added on some insurance in the sixth inning thanks to a two-run error, and Boselli capped off his big day with a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh. Boselli wound up driving in four and finished a triple shy of the cycle.
Trevor Kuncl recorded the final eight outs to nail down his sixth save of the season, working around a SLU rally in the ninth that saw the Billikens bring the tying run to the plate.
The two teams will duel again on Saturday in a doubleheader featuring a pair of seven-inning games. First pitch in the opener is set for noon.
